Travel around the great nation of India and there’s one name that appears almost everywhere: Ganesh.
To the uninformed, Ganesh (or Ganesha) is one of the most celebrated and worshipped Hindu gods. Known for bringing good luck and as the “remover of obstacles,” Ganesh is also the deity of art and science, while being associated with logic and wisdom.
Naturally these attributes align well with engineering firms across the country. And SHREE GANESH ENGINEERING WORKS, (SGEW) of Bhosari, India, in the manufacturing hub of Pune, continues to honor Ganesh’s namesake with precision – and pride.
HandySCAN 3D for Handheld Scanning
As a leader in third-party industrial inspection technologies, SHREE GANESH ENGINEERING WORKS specializes in, reverse engineering, product design, first article inspection, surface checking, and more.
Dedicated to enhancing and empowering the engineering sector across the country with the latest technological advancements and well-executed operations that improve the customer experience, SHREE GANESH ENGINEERING WORKS with aerospace, automotive, energy, machinery, plastics and medical brand manufacturers.
Recently Sameer Kalaskar, a lead engineer on the SGEW team, explained how his company first began adopting 3D laser scanning technology to augment and improve their inspection tasks, extending their range of metrology-grade solutions necessary to meet a wider range of service requests.
Specifically, he explained SGEW’s use of the HandySCAN 3D line of handheld mobile scanning devices and the GOM Inspect software, (now Zeiss Inspect) an upgrade from their earlier experience with competitor solutions.
“Sometimes we face challenges like the need to scan larger parts more than 3 meters or a big size part where we need to perform step wise scanning which was not possible with an arm.” Mr. Kalaskar explained. “From onsite scanning support, to flexibility in scanning, our HandySCAN 3D was easy to carry and there was no need for a large vehicle to transport the machine.”
A Time and Efficiency Multiplier Effect
Beyond solely the power of precision measurement, Mr. Kalaskar emphasized that additional key benefits centered around time spent on-site efficiency gains, on the order of two to three hours per worker shift.
Moreover, thanks in part to HandySCAN 3D’s speed and portability, as well as its essentially non-existent setup time, which enabled scanning directly on the shop floor or in-field inspection, reverse-engineering timelines were also shortened. Reduced downtime, faster decision-making, and overall improved productivity across teams, had an additional positive knock-on effect.
Outcomes like this are why Mr. Kalaskar was enthusiastic in recommending working with FARO CREAFORM upcoming projects and their ever-evolving customer needs.
“In the future we will have plans to buy a second machine,” he said. “Also, our customers are asking our sales personnel for these products too and we have already given them permission to contact them. If at any time we’ve requested technical support the FARO CREAFORM team has always been helpful when we call them. Overall, it’s been a wonderful experience.”

Future Forward with a 3D Scanning Assist
From aerospace and automotive, to electronics and engineering, India’s manufacturing sector has grown to become a key driver in the country’s continued economic success. Today it contributes around 17% to total gross domestic product and employs some 27 million workers.
As one of the fastest growing economies in the world and a top 5 nation ranked by GDP, India’s manufacturing impact on the world will only increase.
Maintaining and growing that dominance will require speed, agility, safety, accuracy and precision. And solutions like FARO CREAFORM HandySCAN 3D lineup of products will be essential tools in furthering that success.
It’s a fact – and a trajectory – Ganesh, the deity, and not just the Bhosari, India engineering firm namesake, can accept with noteworthy pride.
