HOLON—an independent division of the BENTELER Group— is committed to shaping a new kind of mobility that is limitless, accessible to all, and sustainable. Leveraging BENTELER’s deep expertise in engineering, industrialization, and electromobility, HOLON applies proven automotive standards to an entirely new category of transportation: autonomous, fully electric vehicles designed for everyday use.
Its flagship vehicle, the HOLON urban, is engineered for real-world public mobility—capable of serving dense city centers, rural regions, airports, universities, and trade fair grounds. Accommodating up to 15 passengers and operating at speeds up to 60 km/h (37 mph), the vehicle sets new benchmarks in safety, ride comfort, accessibility, and manufacturing quality.
To uphold this level of quality, HOLON needed a metrology solution capable of scanning the welded steel frame of its vehicle bodies. This blog details how HOLON evaluated its options—and why the MetraSCAN 3D emerged as the system that best supported its requirements for reliable, accurate, shop-floor-ready 3D measurements.
Ensuring Reliable Data for Secure Autonomous Vehicle Production
For HOLON, security is the foundation of autonomous vehicle development. Building a vehicle that operates without a driver requires data that is both uncompromisingly accurate and entirely reliable.
As a newly established vehicle manufacturer, HOLON did not yet have its own measuring equipment. Although the company evaluated several systems already in use at its parent company, BENTELER, these solutions were not fully aligned with HOLON’s product portfolio and its specific needs. The company required a different approach.
During the prototype phase, the team needed to measure the vehicle’s unconventional structural body assembly quickly and accurately—and to do so directly in the production environment. The ideal solution had to be:
- Accurate, delivering reliable data that anyone could trust
- Fast, providing quick results that keep production moving
- Easy to use, even for operators without extensive metrology experience
- Portable, enabling scanning directly on the shop floor without compromising accuracy
Beyond capturing speed and accuracy, interoperability was a must. All measurement data needed to integrate seamlessly into PolyWorks, the software ecosystem widely adopted across BENTELER and essential to their quality workflows.
HOLON tested several metrology solutions to find a system—and a partner—capable of meeting these technical and operational demands.
In the end, FARO CREAFORM proved to be the partner that best aligned with HOLON’s expectations for efficiency and shop-floor-ready performance.
Metrology-Grade Accuracy Directly on the Shop Floor
To meet their requirements for accuracy and quick data acquisition, HOLON selected the MetraSCAN 3D. Its portability and lightweight design allow technicians to perform high-accuracy measurements directly on the shop floor—right next to assembly activities. This eliminated delays associated with moving parts to a dedicated metrology lab.
Equally important, the system’s intuitive operation shortened the learning curve. After a brief training session, HOLON’s technicians were able to operate the system independently. Ongoing support from FARO CREAFORM—ranging from prompt answers to technical questions to reliable software updates—further ensured smooth adoption and secured long-term system reliability.
While other optical measurement solutions were considered, FARO CREAFORM distinguished itself with faster, more accurate data acquisition in real production environments. By enabling HOLON to capture and analyze measurement data quickly, the MetraSCAN 3D has proven to be the most effective choice.
After extensive research, we chose the MetraSCAN 3D. It’s portable, fast, and delivers the level of accuracy our company demands—making it ideal for our requirements.
We operate the system directly on the production floor, right next to assembly. This lets us integrate quality assurance seamlessly into the production process and respond immediately to any deviations.

Reliable Data for a More Secure Future Mobility
HOLON’s commitment to future mobility—and to the high-quality standards required for autonomous vehicles—demands measurement solutions that deliver absolute confidence. After evaluating multiple metrology systems, FARO CREAFORM’s technology proved to be the most reliable, the most accurate, and the best aligned with HOLON’s requirements.
The combination of speed, reliability, and accurate scan data gives us the confidence to consistently implement our high-quality standards.

The collaboration has been consistently positive. With a mass-production plant already in planning, HOLON will require additional measurement systems, and FARO CREAFORM’s portfolio offers several suitable options for scaling their quality assurance capabilities. As a result, the company remains a strong contender for future investments.
Ultimately, the continuous innovation of FARO CREAFORM’s technology and customer support has helped HOLON refine and optimize its processes and results. In an industry where security, accuracy, and trust are non-negotiable, this partnership strengthens HOLON’s mission to shape the future of autonomous mobility.
