Creaform acquires a new CMM

August 22, 2007

Lévis, August, 23th, 2007 Creaform, an expanding company recognized worldwide for its state-of-the-art technologies in laser scanning and inspection, has recently diversified its service line by purchasing a coordinates measure machine (CMM).

The CMM chosen, the Mitutoyo Crysta-Apex, delivers great precision (up to 5 µm) as well as excellent execution speed and repeatability. The device can be used in palping mode or laser scanning mode. Paired up with IBM’s Prélude Inspection software, the CMM allows the measurement and conformity assessment of high precision parts against their original digital 3D model. This robotized CMM is perfect for the quality control of parts, whether it is a few samples or large series, and generates important time savings with regards to repetitive inspections.

“This purchase required a global investment of $200 000 from the company. The machine will enable us to expand our metrology services line and to meet the needs of high precision industries such as that of aerospace”, said Martin Lamontagne, Creaform’s vice-president, Operations and General Director. The new CMM adds up to a comprehensive list of measure and inspection equipment, including Handyscan 3D laser scanners, Romer portable measuring arms, Zephyr laser sensors.

The machine is operated by Creaform’s experienced metrologists and is located in a dedicated and environmentally-controlled room. The recent move of Creaform into more spacious quarters has allowed for the dedication of a complete room to the new CMM alone. To mark this investment, Creaform will offer its metrology services at a special rate of $70/h, from September to November 2007 inclusive.
