Lévis, April 15, 2009 - Creaform, developer and manufacturer of the Handyscan 3D line-up of self-positioning laser scanners, is thrilled to announce that the VIUscanTM, its portable 3D color scanner, was elected Product of the Year 2008 by the NASA Tech Briefs' readers.

"The winners of the NASA Tech Briefs Product of the Year Awards are selected by our readers for their technical merit and practical value. These products are being used by engineers to create innovative solutions to design challenges, and to help get the next generation of products to market faster," said Linda L. Bell, NASA Tech Briefs Editorial Director.

Like its fellow Handyscan 3D scanners, the VIUscan color scanner is very accurate, easy to learn and use and versatile. It can be used for endless applications, of which product design from existing color objects/scaled-down color mock-ups, creation of colored/annotated clay models, shape and color inspection of parts, and 3D technical documentation (assembly, maintenance and repair documents).

"It's an honor for us to receive this award, said Charles Money, president of Creaform. Basically, the VIUscan is a concentrate of the innovative-thinking, versatility and quality that Creaform always strives for, and having it recognized by this highly-knowledgeable community confirms how promising the future is for the VIUscan and its advanced applications."
