VXelements – Boundaries Parameters

VXelements features specific algorithms to process data on boundaries. Two parameters can be modified in order to change VXelements behavior when processing this data.  They can be accessed by clicking on Scan node in the Project Tree.

The Boundaries Optimization is the first parameter. It determines the amount of boundaries that will be optimized using the specific algorithm, from smallest to largest.

No optimization is performed on boundaries

TIP

If the user is not concerned by the boundaries, setting the Boundaries Optimization parameter value to 0 will greatly reduce the processing time.

If the Boundaries Optimization parameter is set to a different value than 0, boundaries will be optimized using the Boundaries Sharpness parameter. This sets how sharp or smooth the boundaries will be at the end of the process.

The Boundaries optimization can be seen like a ball moving along the boundaries and crushing the top of the triangles. The Boundaries Sharpness can be seen as the diameter of the ball. A higher value will increase the ball diameter; crush more triangles and thus creating a smoother surface. Below, the red line shows the final boundary.

Example: Hubcap

A good example of this is scanning a hubcap on only one side. This creates many boundaries that can be optimized using the two different parameters.
