Revolutionizing Custom Engine Fabrication with HandySCAN BLACK Elite & VXmodel See the articleINTAV SRL is an Italian company with more than 30 years of experience in designing and manufacturing luminous and acoustic warning devices for emergency, rescue, and operative vehicles.
To improve its technological measurement and design capacities, the company was looking for a metrology solution able to quickly capture part dimensions – especially when original drawing data could not be provided by the customer or supplier. Until then, measurements were made the old-fashioned way with manual devices such as caliper gauges and measuring tapes. This was extremely time consuming, and the results were not always precise. Consequently, the objective was to find a tool that would speed up the measurement process and would provide 3D data instantly for their projects, as well as for reverse engineering tasks.
The Go!SCAN SPARK scanner convinced the company after a practical test, as it fulfilled all the requirements, and provided great value for money and precise data. The implementation was seamless, and, after some practice, all operators were able to use the scanning tool.
Creation of side case shelters for motorcycles
Recently the Go!SCAN SPARK was used for the creation for steel side case shelters for motorcycles.
For this project, a motorcycle was partially scanned to get 3D references, in order to get data into the 3D CAD software SolidWorks.
INTAV took advantage of the good quality of the scan to have very realistic chassis interfaces that could be used as a template to create the best possible fit with the part they needed to develop. The final product was assembled without problems, right out of the box.
According to Hermann Molteni, Mechanical Designer at INTAV, the 3D scanner greatly facilitated the process of integrating parts within both large and small narrow spaces. It enabled the generation of 3D drawings of parts, where no original drawings existed, to quickly have a replica produced in the design software SolidWorks. Overall, the scanner facilitated the work of the engineers and designers.
